AI and Parenting | Round Two

This week, as we consider more deeply what AI will look like for our economy, country, and world, I am forced to think harder about how AI will impact my daughter. Looking back to week 1, it seemed funny that we were both learning about robots. Kneejerk reality hit this week: it is actually changing our lives.

My first concern was whether my job was safe (I established last week that my husband's job would need a revamp).  I checked out the resource from the text: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-34066941.  My exact job isn't listed, but it seems that health professionals, in general, are relatively safe - albeit not immune and will require adaptation. More specifically, in a role that requires gathering insights based on human relationships and trust, I feel that I have positioned myself in a relatively durable role.

Where does this leave my 6-year-old? I would say that, to some extent, she is well-positioned. She is malleable with the potential to harness AI and select a career path that embraces this seemingly inevitable path forward. She can become adept and work with it, embracing her personal skill set and weaving the two together. I recognize that this will take guidance and finesse, which I hope to be able to help her navigate. Another thing I need to remember is her empathetic personality, which is a gift and curse, will likely prove to be very useful when a genuine human connection sets her apart from skillful AI.
