Staying Engaged With Emerging AI

As this class comes to an end, I am left asking myself what directions to take to remain relevant and up-to-date on AI.  Many solutions are offered in Surfing the Tsunami, but what is right for me as I approach mid-career? What is right for my daughter as she approaches mid-first grade? The great news is that it seems like we have a lot of options.

For me: I'm going to start by following some new Reddit threads. A quick search shows that r/MachineLearning, r/learnmachinelearning, and r/deeplearning may be a good start. There is also LinkedIn, where I can follow different professors and researchers to see what they are posting. In addition to Todd Kelsey, PhD, I am interested in Ahmed Flex Omar’s (CEO at Flex Tech AI and Host of Tech in the Hood Podcast) and the group Artificial Intelligence Innovators, AI, ChatGPT, Bard, Bing, CoPilot & Machine Learning Innovation. I think these will be a great start in addition to my current practice of monitoring AI in the news!

For the aspiring 1st grader: The Osmo Family Coding Game arrived yesterday! "In Osmo’s Coding Awbie, kids use physical blocks of code to program a wondrous journey for Awbie, a playful character who loves delicious strawbies. Combining tangible blocks with interactive screen time, Coding Awbie is the easiest way to introduce your kids to coding." I hate to admit that it looks pretty fun. I hope it will help me pick up a few things, too! Additionally, a friend picked up Miko (https://miko.ai/), which we may consider getting her in the future.

My takeaway from this class is that there is a lot of ongoing learning that is going to need to happen, and will likely happen whether I want to or not. I'm excited for continuous learning and to see what the future holds for us all!
